This Patek Philippe Gondolo reference 2554, known as the “Manta Ray” for its distinctive elongated rectangular case, represents one of the rarest avant-garde wristwatches from Patek Philippe’s post-war production era. The watch was retailed by Tiffany & Co., resulting in the highly desirable double-signed dial that serious collectors actively seek. Crafted in solid 18k yellow gold and powered by a manual winding movement, this 1950s example is all original except for the leather strap. The watch was recently serviced in-house on April 21, 2026.

The solid 18k yellow gold case measures approximately 22mm x 40mm, with an elongated iconic rectangular shape that gives the “Manta Ray” its nickname. The curved mineral glass crystal follows the contours of the case beautifully. The case shows visible signs of wear consistent with age, including hairline scratches, minor scratches on the bezel and case back, and slight chipping on the crystal – all typical for a watch from the 1950s.

The silver dial is a study in understated elegance. Applied baton hour markers mark the hours, with a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock adding functional charm. The original double signature – Patek Philippe Geneva above the center and Tiffany & Co. below – confirms the watch’s prestigious retail provenance. The dial remains intact with expected aging consistent with the period. The back of the case features a personalized engraving from the original owner, adding to the watch’s unique character and story.

The watch is fitted with a black leather strap (replacement, not original). The 18k yellow gold tang buckle, however, is original Patek Philippe – a rare US-made buckle with a “Philippe” misprint that adds an intriguing detail for collectors.

The manual winding movement was recently serviced in-house on April 21, 2026, with no parts replaced. It is functioning properly and ready for daily wear or careful rotation in a collection.
